Powerful Communication Podcast

Aug 31, 2020

I've felt this for ages but today's coverage of Adele's choice of costume to mark what would have been the Notting Hill Carnival has pushed me over the edge.

Of course there are instances where people's behaviour or opinions are so at odds with mainstream society and the law that they should be 'shut out' from public performance and debates. But to apply that same treatment to a pop star styling her hair a particular way or choosing to dress in particular clothes risks belittling very serious issues.

Issues around racism and sexism should not be treated as 'entertainment' stories and yet I believe they often are in our mainstream media. So I have a few thoughts to share and I'd like to know what you think. You can message me at colin@comsteria.co.uk
